CHICAGO, ILL. -- Three-time national champion Appalachian State and runner-up Delaware dominated the selections of the College Sporting News Fabulous Fifty FCS All-American team released today with six major award winners. Four Gateway Conference players were honored among the 50.
The Gateway's PK Taylor Rowan of Western Illinois, LB Kye Stewart of Illinois State; DL Mark Huygens of Northern Iowa and Chad Rinehart of Northern Iowa earned selection to the team.
In all, 37 teams and 13 conferences are represented on the team. Appalachian State landed four players on the squad, Delaware had three, while eight other teams also had multiple selections — Eastern Washington, Elon, James Madison, Montana, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Richmond and San Diego.
Henry Frazier III, who led Prairie View A&M to its first winning season in over three decades and most wins since 1964, was named as the coach of the year. Now in his 4th year at PVAMU, Frazier has turned around a Panther program that at one point had lost an NCAA record 80-plus games.
