Carollo Agrees to Five-Year Contract Extension
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced today that Bill Carollo will continue in his role as Coordinator of Officials for the Collegiate Officiating Consortium (COC), which includes the Big Ten, Mid-American and Missouri Valley Conferences. He has been at the Big Ten Conference and COC since 2009, following exceptional careers as an official in the National Football League, and executive with both IBM and Manpower, Inc.

Carollo served as a Big Ten football official from 1980-88 and concluded a two-decade career with the NFL in 2008. He officiated Super Bowls XXX and XXXVII, was selected as an alternate referee for Super Bowl XXXVIII and officiated eight AFC or NFC Championship games in his career.

“We are pleased to announce that Bill Carollo will remain in his current role and continue to provide guidance and leadership to our football officiating program,” said Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany. “Bill’s vast experience at both the collegiate and professional levels as well as his great integrity have helped the Big Ten remain the standard in college football officiating.”

“Bill has done a terrific job over the past decade and has a credible, proven-track record, having officiated at the highest levels of the sport,” said incoming Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren. “His outstanding leadership, integrity, vision, professionalism and experience has positioned the Big Ten and the COC at the forefront of collegiate football officiating. I look forward to working with Bill and continuing to elevate the officiating program as he continues in this role.”

“I have the best job in college football, maybe all of football, and look forward to continuing in this role while working with the best collection of officials in the country,” said Carollo. “I have greatly appreciated my time working with Commissioners Delany, Steinbrecher and Viverito, and am excited for the opportunity to work with Commissioner Warren.”

“I am pleased we will continue to have Bill Carollo leading our football officiating consortium. He has provided outstanding leadership not only to the Collegiate Officiating Consortium, but to all of college football,” said MAC Commissioner Dr. Jon Steinbrecher. “Bill has formed effective recruitment and educational programs that are helping to build depth and diversity. He has also established a strong evaluation team that leads to greater growth as well as accountability for the officials in the Consortium. I look forward to Bill continuing to work with our membership.”

“The Missouri Valley Football Conference has benefitted greatly from our affiliation with the Big Ten and Mid-American Conference in the football officiating consortium under Bill Carollo’s leadership,” said Missouri Valley Conference Senior Associate Commissioner Patty Viverito. “Bill’s unique vision and dedication have led to model programs for recruiting, training and evaluating our football officials. Retaining him as coordinator ensures that we will benefit from his efforts for many more years.”
