Racers Drop 100th Season Home Opener
Murray State football dropped a nail-biter to Butler 19-17 on Saturday night at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Kentucky.
The Racers scoring was highlighted by a pair of touchdown runs by Jawaun Northington and Kywon Morgan before James London made a 51-yard field goal to cap off the Racers scoring on the evening. Tyson Meiguez, James Camden, and Lovie Jenkins led the Racers defense with Meiguez racking up 13 tackles while Camden and Jenkins each had nine tackles.
Game Notes
- Dennard Flowers, Amari Wansley, Josh Crabtree, and Preston Jarvis served as the MSU captains for the contest
- The Racers stacked up three sacks in the game from Detoye Adewole, Kavan Reed, and Davon Martin
- Murray State picked up nine tackles-for-loss in the game, the most since 2022 when the Racers had nine against Robert Morris
- Meiguez now leads the Racers with 18 tackles on the year with 10 solo stops
- Reed continued his strong start to the 2024 campaign with another pass break up in the game following his PBU vs. Missouri last week
- With his 51-yard effort London now holds two of the 20 longest field goals in MSU history (53-yds vs. North Dakota State in 2023)
- Murray State had four rushers with at least 40 yards on the ground in Q'Darryius Jennings, Jayden Johannsen, Northington, and Morgan
- Punter Thomas O'Hara continued his impressive start to the campaign with four more punts averaged 46.5 yards with a long of 58 yards
- The Racers return to action next week (Sept. 14) at home vs. Mississippi Valley State
